About

Checking Things Off Our List!

So, you decided that you want to set some goals and check a few things off of your list.
But then that little character pops up on your shoulder…

The one that spews out things like:
You’ve been that size since you were twelve. You’ll never lose that weight. You know you have asthma. You cannot run that marathon. Your voice isn’t strong enough. You can never be a singer…
So, where do you go from here because that desire is still there and most likely will not go away.

Trust me, I know what you are experiencing! I’ve been there plenty of times.
Whether you are unclear of what you want and need help or if you know what you want and just need a push, that is where I come in.

Last Year I

Turned…

well, my age is not important…and I decided that I was going to stop being a procrastinator.

Now, in my defense I am only a procrastinator when it comes to my own work – for others, I give 110%. Anywho, I knew I wanted to make a change and so I did.

I decided to remind myself of some of my old goals and start from scratch.

They say that the hesitation stems from insecurity and I would NEVER describe myself as insecure, but it is something going on because there are so many things that I failed to accomplish that were long overdue.

So, I made a promise to myself that each year I would check something off of my list.

In August of 2019 I was determined to raise money for cancer in honor of my mother for my Kilimanjaro climb.

I raised over $6,000 and although it was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done, I stayed focused and made it all the way to the top and back down again on my own two feet. At the beginning of 2020 I hadn’t set my next goal.

I wanted to, but I just never got around to doing it and then COVID hit. That is when I started journaling again.

A few months later I decided on my next task – finally writing the children’s book I first said I would write over 15 years ago. I want to accomplish things that would make my mom smile (she passed away in 2005).

Things that would make us both proud. I want to be someone that young Traci could look up to.

The Journey Begins

The method behind the madness of my writing journey is to stay on track and continue to follow my dreams.

I am inviting you to join me on this ride with hopes that you will achieve your own personal goals as well.

I’m so excited for us!

Author Bio

Traci Swain was born and raised in the South Bronx and spent every summer of her childhood in Talladega, Alabama – both her parents were from this amazing small town. She and her brother, Rodney, loved going south to visit family and connect with nature.

While Traci was growing up, her mother and brother loved to read. However, she did not share this love. It wasn’t until she found stories like Are Your There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume and The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton that she began to learn to love reading. She had finally found books with interesting characters and intriguing story lines that could pique her interest and hold her attention.

One thing that Traci did love was entertainment. At an early age, Ms. Swain took her to the Mary Bruce School of Dance in Harlem, where Traci excelled in class and had her first performance at the famous Apollo Theater.

She went on to audition and was accepted into the world-renowned NYC High School of Performing Arts, now renamed the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. After graduating, Traci went on to get her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts at Stony Brook University. After college, she immediately got a job as a supervisor at a multimillion-dollar mattress company. However, she kept getting dance jobs. After a year of juggling both, she took the leap to follow her dreams. After all of her hard work, Traci turned her love and gift for dance into a career. She was a professional dancer for over 15 years.

Traci has been involved in children’s publishing since 2011. She fosters the joy of reading by producing content with students, renowned authors, and educators who go above and beyond for their young readers.

Her love of writing began after taking creative writing courses at a summer day camp when she was 12. Her class was assigned to write in a journal each day, and thus her love of sharing stories began.

Traci started writing children’s books to help connect young readers with topics that make them laugh and want to learn new things. She hopes her stories will help encourage a love of reading, inspire creativity, and build confidence and self-esteem – all while teaching empathy, inclusion and kindness.

When Traci isn’t creating books, she spends her time traveling, hanging with family and friends, and checking things off of her bucket list. Her biggest feat to date – climbing Kilimanjaro.
